Today João has lunch with his oldest friend, Yoshi Tomodachi. Yoshi is from Brazil, but his parents were born in Japan!
João and Yoshi met in high school. After graduation, they both went to work on the same ranch. They did this for a year. Afterwards, João went to university and Yoshi went to flight school.
Now Yoshi is a bush pilot! He works for international organizations flying supplies to remote research stations deep in the Amazon. He also flies special missions monitoring nature preserves. He’s always on the look out for illegal logging, mining, or ranching. Our natural resources must be maintained!
Sometimes it can be a dangerous job. Two months ago, Yoshi’s plane was shot at by sloths running an illegal logging operation. A bullet hit his fuel tank and he had to make an emergency landing on a river. It was pretty rough! Luckily, he was just scratched and bruised. The radio was ruined though.
It took Yoshi three weeks to trek out of the jungle. João, and all of Yoshi’s friends and family, were very worried!
Today’s lunch is a special welcome home meal. João is happy his friend is ok.
