Imagine - A Soviet R-7 booster lights up the steppe, reaching for the heavens. It’s payload, humanity’s first object to orbit the earth - SPUTNIK 1.
Only 23 inches in diameter and weighing 184 pounds, Sputnik carried little more than a radio transmitter. It’s steady “beep” greeting the world as it made a complete orbit every 96 minutes.
This tiny little explorer immediately closed the Atomic Age and heralded the beginning of our hyper connected world.
