Flying a mere 30 days after Sputnik, this vehicle carried the first “earthling” to orbit the planet (that we know of).
Laika, a stray Muscovite dog, was launched November 4th, 1957 from the Baikonor Cosmodrome. The first of 57[!] dog-monauts, paving the way for future crewed flights.
